‘Connecting with Nature’: Alwoodley 2026

To coincide with Alwoodley 2030's ‘Walking with Wildlife’ event, BSDC exhibited a collection of photographs in Lingfield Living Local Community Hub. The exhibition celebrates BSDC’s long history of making work in collaboration with nature, from guided walks, to outdoor performances, to permanant nature trails designed to help people engage creatuvely with their environment. The exhibition also documents part of BSDC’s research and development for our creative interventions in a local resident’s garden, as part of the ‘Walking with Wildlife’ event.

Exhibition

Making use of Lingfield Community Hub’s architecture, the exhibition was installed along the shop’s picture rail, and was enjoyed by the shop’s visitors ahead of the ‘Walking with Wildlife’ event, and by the event’s attendees on the day. The exhibition will remain in the hub indefinitely as a reminder of the joy to be found in connecting with nature.

With an ever-growing number of our works taking place in green spaces, Balbir Singh Dance Company sets the scene for artists, audiences and communities to foster their relationship with nature and grow closer to the planet that we live, walk and dance upon.

As part of Alwoodley 2030, Balbir Singh Dance Company worked with Denise, a local resident and keen gardener, and filled it with creative activity. As part of our research process, we visited Denise in her garden, and learned about her nature-friendly apprach to gardening which supports biodiversity. The images in this exhibition show classical Indian dancer, Devaraj Thimmaiah, responding to the garden, and developing a performance which took place on 17 May as part of the ‘Walking with Nature’ event.
