East Meets West at Audley Villages
On the evening of the 28 February 2025, BSDC had the honour of performing for the East Meets West event at Audley Retirement Village, Scarcroft, in aid of raising money for Martin House Children's Hospice. The night, which hosted special guests Christa Ackroyd and Gaynor Faye, consisted of a charity auction, a feast of South Asian Cuisine from local chef and host Freda Shafi, and Indian Dance and Live Music from Balbir Singh Dance Company. In a celebration of community, culture, and generosity, the evening managed to raise over £4500.
East Meets West was in the pipeline for some time, planned over several months in fact and it came together beautifully. With many contributions that completely blew us away, showing us that giving back never felt so good ... The mesmerising entertainment given to us by an old friend and colleague, Balbir Singh Dance Company with classical Kathak dancers Kali and Sanchita moving to the dulcet tones of tabla by John; it had the audience captivated. Who would have ever thought that the addition of beatbox would be so good?
The menu was carefully planned out between chef Kevin and myself . The brief - a fusion of East meets West Yorkshire! Punctuating classic south Asian dishes with definitively Yorkshire inspired elements. A hugely successful night overall that raised a whopping £4500+ in only a few hours. It just goes to show how people come together to support, but more importantly, give back.
