Roots & Routes with Allerton CE

Following on from the success of our previous 2 year collaboration, Bones, Bodies & Beats, we have continued our work with Allerton CE Primary School to encourage children to learn and engage with the world around them. Taking inspiration from our previous Roots & Routes project, this initiative provides children with an opportunity to be at one with their environment, and interact with it through new and exciting lenses.

Senses in the forest   |   4 February

For the first in a series of workshops, Balbir Singh Dance Company met the children of Year 3 at Adel Woods, where we greeted them with fascination and activity. The morning was divided between 4 artists, with Jane Morland, Sanchita Mazumdar, Louise Grassby and Bobak Champion each taking the children on a journey that engaged the senses and encouraged them to tune into their surroundings.

Creatures of the Earth   |   11 March

The second workshop engaged the children in thinking about the layers of the Earth, and the types of creatures that might be living inside it. If there was something living within the Earth, how might it move? What type of shapes would its body make?
